September on the Gold Coast is packed with festivals, markets and community events that make the most of the spring sunshine. From world-class art installations to buzzing markets and energetic sporting events, here are the highlights you will not want to miss.
AASCF QLD State Cheer & Dance Championships
When: 5–7 September
Where: Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre
The month kicks off with a burst of energy as the cheer and dance championships return to Broadbeach. Thousands of competitors bring big stunts, powerful routines and a lively atmosphere.
Local tip: Even if you are not competing, the event is an incredible spectacle of athleticism and team spirit.
Crafted Beer & Cider Festival
When: 13 September
Where: Broadbeach
Sample craft beers and ciders from across Australia, enjoy live music and pair your drink with delicious street food. It is a relaxed yet vibrant way to spend a spring day by the beach.
We recommend: Bring a picnic rug and make a full afternoon of it.
SWELL Sculpture Festival
When: 12–21 September
Where: Currumbin Beach
For ten days, Currumbin Beach transforms into a giant outdoor gallery with striking sculptures displayed along the sand and foreshore. The event is free and open day and night, offering a unique cultural experience right by the ocean.
Fun fact: The sculptures take on a completely different feel when lit up after sunset.
Pink Paddle Power Festival
When: 12–15 September
Where: Gold Coast waterways
This colourful event raises awareness and funds for breast cancer through a community paddle. Expect a sea of pink on the water, live entertainment and a feel-good festival atmosphere.
Local tip: Even if you do not paddle, it is worth heading down to watch and support.
Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets
When: Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4pm
Where: The Foreshore, Surfers Paradise
A Gold Coast favourite, these twilight markets line the beachfront with stalls selling local crafts, art, food and souvenirs. Stroll through as the sun sets and enjoy live entertainment with the ocean as your backdrop.
Broadbeach Art & Craft Markets
When: 7 and 21 September, 8am–2pm
Where: Pratten Park, Old Burleigh Road, Broadbeach
Browse handmade goods, jewellery, and art in a relaxed beachside setting. A perfect Sunday morning activity before grabbing brunch nearby.
HOTA Farmers Markets
When: Every Sunday, 6am–11.30am
Where: 135 Bundall Road, Surfers Paradise
One of the Gold Coast’s most popular markets, the HOTA Farmers Markets offer fresh produce, gourmet foods, plants and artisan products. A local favourite that pairs perfectly with a visit to the gallery or parklands afterwards.
