Holidays can be expensive, especially in the current climate, but there are plenty of little ways to save here and there. It all adds up, leaving you with more to spend on what actually matters: the fun stuff.

If you are in the middle of planning a Gold Coast holiday , these tips will help you keep costs down without missing out on the experience.

1. Always Book Direct

Whenever possible, book your accommodation direct for the best pricing and added perks. At Wow Stay, we keep our rates competitive. If you see one of our Gold Coast apartments listed cheaper elsewhere, let us know and we’ll do our best to match it or add on extra perks!

2. Travel Outside Peak Seasons

One of the easiest ways to save on a Gold Coast holiday is timing. If your lifestyle allows, travelling outside of school holidays (even by a few days) is one of the easiest ways to save.

Peak periods include:

School holidays (especially Christmas/New Year and Easter)
Long weekends
Major Gold Coast events
Schoolies (Late Nov / Early Dec)

Travelling outside these dates can significantly reduce both accommodation, flight costs, car hire etc.

3. Stay Midweek for Cheaper Rates

Fridays and Saturdays are typically the most expensive nights no matter where in the world you stay. If your schedule allows, booking Sunday to Thursday can often mean lower nightly rates while still enjoying the same apartment, views, and location.

4. Add On A Night Or Two

It might sound counterintuitive, but a longer stay can sometimes be cheaper per night. When booking your Gold Coast accommodation , try adjusting your dates to see if adding an extra night unlocks better overall pricing.

5. Check Events Before You Book

Prices can increase quickly when major events are on. Before locking in your trip, search your dates to see if there are significant events on the Gold Coast. Look for things like:

Festivals
Sporting competitions (Gold Coast Pro, Cheerleading Nationals, AFL & NRL games etc)

This helps you avoid unexpected price spikes, that you may have thought was simply 'standard pricing'.

6. Don’t Just Book the Cheapest Flight

The cheapest flight isn’t always the best value. For example, arriving early morning on a red-eye flight may mean waiting hours for check in - leading to extra spending on food, transport, activities and generally a headache if you've got the kids in tow. Something that is easy to forget, but don't forget to check with all your insurance and other providers to see if they have affiliation discounts available. Car, travel, health insurance providers often offer discounts on care hire, attractions, theme parks etc.

If you’re visiting theme parks, always book ahead. Multi day passes are usually always cheaper than buying tickets at the gate, and you might discover other places to visit that weren't originally on your radar.

Saturday Morning - time to explore

Wake up in your apartment, watch the sun rise and the city slowly wake up. If you aren’t an early riser, we recommend setting an alarm - the Gold Coast lifestyle is all about early starts.

Grab a drink to go from Common Coffee and wander down to the beach. The Esplanade path goes all the way from Broadbeach to Main Beach, so you can stroll along and see where you end up. Stop in at one of the surf clubs or cafes for breakfast, there are endless choices along the way!

For those interested in a bit of retail therapy, Cavill Ave and Paradise Centre are close to home, or you can catch the tram down to Burleigh and explore Pacific Fair.

Saturday Lunch — by the water

After a morning exploring, there is nothing better than settling in for lunch and drinks in the sunshine. Our favourite spot by the water is Coast Beach Bar & Kitchen, perfect for cocktails, share plates and soaking up the view.

One of the benefits of choosing an apartment over a hotel room is having space to relax at the end of a busy day. Head back to your apartment for a bit of downtime, and make the most of the resort facilities with a swim, spa or sauna.

Saturday Evening — dinner & a night out

You can’t come to the Gold Coast and not have a night out - the nightlife here is almost as famous as the beaches. If you are a self proclaimed ‘foodie’, we recommend jumping on the tram down to Burleigh where there are endless Instagram worthy options. Light Years and Jimmy Wah's are always a safe bet.

Bar hop the night away, or for something a little different, catch a ‘Vegas’ inspired show at Pink Flamingo.

Sunday Morning — markets, beach & thrill seeking

Start your morning with a visit to the HOTA Markets. Grab a coffee, have a wander through the stalls, and pick up something for breakfast to fuel you for the day.

For those wanting a chilled day in the sun, head to the beach. If you’ve ever wanted to try surfing, there are plenty of board hire spots and beginners lessons in the area.

If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, there’s no shortage of things to do. The theme parks are an easy option for a fun day out, or stay closer to Surfers and check out the water activities along the riverfront.

Sunday Evening — end on a high

End your weekend the way it started, slow and relaxed. Cook an easy dinner or grab a takeaway (Sura Thai is our favourite) and enjoy it on the balcony watching the city skyline.

Location: Miami

Why we love it: Spacious, social and always a good time, Precinct is one of my go to spots for meeting friends. It is perfect for bigger groups, with long tables, live music and crispy beers, making it easy to settle in for the afternoon.

Location: Burleigh

Why we love it: A Gold Coast staple and one of my personal favourites, Black Hops have a wide range of beers that cater to everyone’s taste. A relaxed venue with consistently good service and meals, it’s an ideal spot for Sunday sessions and laid back afternoon drinks.

Location: Currumbin

Why we love it: Hidden in the backstreets down the Southern end of the Gold Coast, this one is as popular amongst families as it is with groups of friends. There is a solid range of beers, food trucks, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It’s fun, vibrant and always busy in the best way. Some of the beers can be rather strong, so we do recommend planning your tasting paddle wisely….

Why we love it: There are two Gold Coast spots to get your 4 Pines fix, The Sporting Globe in Surfers or Boardriders in Coolangatta. The Sporting Globe is great for groups and watching a game with a beer, while Boardriders is a quieter option, perfect for a lunch and beachside drink.

Venue: Cedar Creek Estate

Location: Tamborine Mountain

Why we love it: A very popular winery nestled in the Tamborine Mountains, its stunning backdrop is the perfect setting for a long lunch. If the food and wine menu isn’t enough to tempt you for a visit, Cedar Creek even has a butterfly exhibit and glow worm cave!

Why we love it: A more intimate option, perfect for small groups or date day. We are a huge fan of the DIY cheeseboards, and that you can bring your furry friends along for the day.

Why we love it: With a backdrop as aesthetic as their drinks, this is one of our favourite spots for a girls’ day or relaxed afternoon. The tasting paddles are beautifully curated, the bartenders are superbly trained, and there is something on the menu to suit everyone’s taste buds.

Venue: Grandad Jack’s Craft Distillery

Location: Miami

Why we love it: Nestled in the backstreets of Miami, the word that comes to mind when describing this venue is ‘heartwarming’. A cosy looking venue with the quirkiest flavours, you can book a tour or even try your hand at making your own gin.

When you’re travelling with kids, keeping them entertained (and out of trouble) can sometimes feel like a full time job. While holidays are meant for relaxing and having fun, travel can add up quickly. That’s why we’re always looking for fun, free activities to recommend to our guests.

Finding the right playground can make the difference between a good day and a great one. Luckily, the Gold Coast is full of incredible parks that offer far more than a basic swing set. Think pirate ships, climbing towers, giant slides and plenty of space for kids to burn off energy.

The best part is many of them are just as enjoyable for the grown ups too.

Here are five of our favourite Gold Coast playgrounds for families - all with a decent coffee spot or two nearby.

Palm Beach Pirate Park

If your kids love pirates, this playground is basically their dream scenario.

Why kids love it: The whole playground is pirate themed, complete with a huge wooden ship, climbing ropes, slides and plenty of imaginative play areas. There’s lots to explore and climb, so it’s perfect for little adventurers who love pretending they’re sailing the high seas.

Why adults love it: It’s right by the beach, so you get to enjoy fresh ocean air while the kids play. There’s also plenty of grassy space nearby for picnics, and Palm Beach’s great cafes are only a short stroll away if you’re in need of a coffee break.

Peninsula Playground – Broadwater Parklands

A Gold Coast classic and easily one of the most impressive playgrounds around.

Why kids love it: The star of the show is the huge four level spiral tower packed with interactive features like binoculars, telescopes, rope tunnels and even musical elements. There are also plenty of swings, slides, climbing structures and space to run around.

Why adults love it: It’s set right along the Broadwater, so you’ve got beautiful water views and walking paths while the kids play. There are shaded picnic areas, lots of parking and usually a coffee cart nearby which we feel is a playground necessity.

Greenheart Parklands – Robina

If your kids have endless energy, this is the place to take them.

Why kids love it: There’s so much to do here it almost feels like a mini adventure park. Think bike tracks, climbing walls, tunnel slides, balance beams, net bridges and even mini trampolines. There’s also a dedicated toddler zone for the little ones.

Why adults love it: The parklands are huge (over 22 hectares), which means lots of open space, walking paths and shaded areas to relax. There’s also an on-site café, so you can grab a coffee while the kids keep playing.

Schuster Park

A playground that is sure to please the big and little kids of the family.

Why kids love it: This park is full of climbing nets, tunnels, balance paths and two mega slides that are always a hit. There are also musical play features hidden along the sand paths, so the kids can explore while and make as much noise as their hearts desire.

Why adults love it: There are plenty of shady spots for relaxing while the kids play, and it’s a great park for picnics or kicking a ball around. Plus, it’s close to Tallebudgera Creek if you want to turn the playground stop into a creek swim and full day out.

Kurrawa All Abilities Playground

One of the closest parks to our Wow Stay properties, you can easily jump on the tram and head down if you don’t have a car.

Why kids love it: There’s a great mix of slides, climbing equipment and sensory play areas, plus accessible equipment so kids of all abilities can play together.

Why adults love it: You’re right in the heart of Broadbeach, which means cafes, restaurants and the beach are all just steps away. It’s a fun place to spend the morning with the family, or tire the kids out before heading to the famous Kurrawa surf club for dinner.

March on the Gold Coast is a little quieter, and being shoulder season, it’s the perfect time to visit if you want to explore without the summer crowds. The weather is still beautiful, and there’s always something happening if you feel like getting out and about.

Festival of Golf

Where: Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club

What to expect / the vibe: The Festival of Golf runs over four days at Sanctuary Cove and it’s not just for the golf lovers. Yes, there’s championship golf happening, but there is plenty of food, pop up bars, live music and interactive zones to wander through.

Movies on the Esplanade

When: Sunday, 1 March 2026 | 7:00 PM (and every Sunday throughout February & March)

Where: Surfers Paradise Esplanade

What to expect / the vibe: Free movie nights right by the ocean? Yes please. Movies on the Esplanade is a relaxed, free community event where you can grab dinner from a nearby restaurant, bring a picnic rug, and settle in for a movie under the stars. It’s the perfect low key Sunday activity for families, couples or groups of friends wanting an easy night out by the beach.

Where: The Foreshore, Surfers Paradise

The Gold Coast is one of Australia’s biggest fitness hubs, and it’s easy to see why. With year round sunshine, world class surf and a strong surf lifesaving culture, mornings here start early. As the sun rises so do the locals, busy walking, running and soaking up the views before the day begins.

One of the best ways to truly experience the Gold Coast is on foot, and the best part? It’s completely free! Which means you can save your spending for post walk coffee stops or surf club happy hours along the way.

While there are hundreds of hikes and trails to explore on the Gold Coast, we’ve come up with our top 7 ‘leisurely’ walks that we think will help you see all the different areas that make our city iconic.

Top 7 Gold Coast walks as voted by the Wow Stay team:

Coolangatta Oceanway

Cooly → Greenmount → Rainbow Bay → Point Danger

This is one of the most scenic coastal walks on the southern end of the Gold Coast. The path is wide, cruisey and easy to follow, making it perfect for all fitness levels.

You can start and stop wherever suits you, but we recommend going all the way to Point Danger. Along the way you’ll pass Greenmount and Rainbow Bay, spot plenty of lizards sunbaking on the rocks, and enjoy uninterrupted ocean views back toward the Surfers Paradise skyline.

Point Danger marks the border between Queensland and New South Wales, and during whale season (June to November) it’s one of the best places to spot them close to shore.

Afterwards, stop in at Black Dingo Café for brunch or coffee, or head to Rainbow Bay Surf Club for incredible views and a chance to rub shoulders with local surfing legends.

Burleigh National Park

If you’re after more of a challenge while still keeping it family friendly, this is the one.

The Oceanview Track winds around the headland with stunning coastal views, while the Rainforest Circuit takes you through lush greenery where if you are lucky you will spot a python or two.

You can expect a few hills that get your heart rate up, but the lookout view over Burleigh and beyond is well worth the effort. Afterwards, grab a takeaway from James Street and watch the surfers from the headland.

The Oceanway Esplanade Walk

Main Beach → Surfers Paradise → Broadbeach

This iconic coastal stretch connects some of the Gold Coast’s most popular beachside suburbs.

Flat, paved and easy to navigate, it’s ideal for families, prams and relaxed strolls. You’ll pass surf clubs, beachfront parks and plenty of spots to stop for coffee or breakfast.

Currumbin Creek Boardwalk

Beree-Badalla Reserve, Palm Beach

For something a little different, the Currumbin Creek Boardwalk takes you through the mangroves in what feels like a hidden oasis.

It’s flat, easy and ideal for families, as the little ones will love exploring the over water path. You can follow it all the way along, then stop in at the iconic Tarte Bakery for coffee or the Currumbin RSL for lunch.

Natural Bridge Circuit

Springbrook National Park

This short rainforest circuit leads to Natural Bridge - a waterfall cascading through a naturally formed rock arch. The walk includes some stairs, but the path is well maintained. Surrounded by ancient rainforest, it feels a world away from the bustle of Surfers Paradise. Visit during the day for stunning waterfall views, or book a guided night tour to see the famous glow worms.

Miami Beach

Mermaid → Nobbys → Miami

There are plenty of ways to explore this stretch on foot. You can start at Mermaid and follow the paved beach path for an easy coastal walk, or begin at Nobby’s and wander down to Hedges Avenue.

My personal favourite route is along Hedges Avenue - the homes here are some of the most stunning and unique on the Gold Coast.

It’s less crowded than Surfers Paradise but still offers wide open sand and beautiful swimming spots. Walk along the shoreline for ocean views, or stick to the paved beachfront paths connecting each suburb.

You’ll also be spoilt for choice when it comes to breakfast or coffee, with plenty of TikTok viral cafés nearby. Our favourites are BSKT, the Oxley and Rafiki.

Cedar Creek Falls

Mount Tamborine National Park

For a hinterland escape, Cedar Creek Falls is a must.

The short walk takes you down to a freshwater swimming hole and waterfall, surrounded by lush greenery. It’s especially beautiful after rainfall when the waterfall is flowing strongly.

It’s a refreshing change from the beach and a great way to experience the diversity of the Gold Coast region.

Whether you’re after ocean views, fresh rainforest air or a peaceful creekside stroll, the Gold Coast offers a walk for every pace.

Shannon Eckstein Ironman Classic

When: February 13–15

What to expect / the vibe: This classic Aussie event involves our top Ironman and Ironwoman battling it out across swimming, paddling and running disciplines. A true test of skill, it makes you appreciate the effort that goes into our lifesavers being fit and able to keep our beaches safe.

Laneway Festival

When: 7 February 2026
Where: Southport Sharks, Southport
What to expect / the vibe: Laneway Festival is back on the Gold Coast with a huge lineup. Headlined by Chappell Roan, alongside Wolf Alice, Pink Pantheress and Role Model, expect a full day of dancing, epic festival outfits and good vibes.

Best Beaches on the Gold Coast

Your guide to the best beaches, surf breaks and hidden swimming spots...

When you hear ‘ Gold Coast’ you instantly think of palm trees, rolling waves and stretches of sand set against the city skyline. With over 35 miles of coastline, the Gold Coast is home to an incredible variety of beaches, each with its own vibe shaped by the surrounding suburbs.

While it’s easy to stick to your closest beach, it’s far more fun to explore beyond it and discover what makes each stretch of sand unique.

Use this ‘Gold Coast Beach Guide’ to find your perfect fit, and enjoy a true taste of the Gold Coast lifestyle.

Closest to Surfers Paradise and Circle on Cavill -

These are the best beaches just a short stroll or drive away from the Wow Stay office and majority of apartment locations.

Surfers Paradise Beach - the iconic beach you know and love, it’s one of the busiest - but for a reason. Close to everything and well patrolled, you can easily spend all day there soaking up the sun, learning to surf or joining in on beach volleyball.

Main Beach - walk a little further down and you will find ‘Main Beach’ tucked in between Surfers and The Spit. This is our go-to beach on the days you want a little more space, while still staying close to the action. Main Beach is perfect for sunset strolls, then stopping in at the surf club for happy hour.

Family Friendly Gold Coast Beaches

These are the places to pick when you want to set up and enjoy a whole day by the water, or to feel like you’ve explored the best hidden parts of the Gold Coast that locals flock to on their days off.

Broadbeach - just a short tram ride away from Circle on Cavill, you’ll find yourself on the wide sandy shores of Broadbeach. A family favourite, broadbeach has a large park with toilets, playgrounds, showers and barbecues for you to cook up a post swim feast.

Currumbin Beach / Creek - Tucked away just behind the alley, there is a little beach where Currumbin Creek meets the sea that ticks all the boxes! Shallow creek swimming and soldier crab chasing for the kids, deeper swim spots for the big kids and plenty of space to spread out and set up. It is also home to one of my husband's favourite secret flathead spots but you didn’t hear it from me….

Tallebudgera - if you google Tallebudgera, you find a little slice of what heaven looks like. Known to the locals as ‘Tally’ you’ll find a stretch of beach opposite Burleigh National Park. It’s popular with tourists and locals alike, wanting to swim in the crystal clear waters. While busy, it’s a ‘must do’ when visiting the Gold Coast. Shallow swim spots perfect for kids, sheltered water for paddle boarding, lifeguard patrols, walking trails and cafes dotted along the path.

Gold Coast Beginner Surf Beaches

Currumbin Alley - The alley is one of the most popular spots for beginners, with plenty of surf schools ready to coach you from the sand to your first wave. It can get a little crowded, but half the fun is catching a ‘party wave’ with others just as excited to be there as you are. The best part of the Alley is it caters for surfers of all levels, with more advanced surfers jumping off the rocks and surfing out the back.

Tugun / Bilinga - One of my personal favourites as a beginner, wander up and down that stretch of coast and you’ll find little beach breaks all along it. No need to stress trying to navigate who’s turn it is - there is plenty of room for everyone.

Kirra (The Groyne) - An iconic Gold Coast surf spot known for its long, gentle right handers. While Kirra is famous for producing world class barrels during bigger swells, the protected bay around the groyne usually offers smaller, beginner friendly waves.

Surfers Paradise - The long stretch of sand in front of Surfers Paradise’s skyline usually has small, cruisey waves and ideal beginner friendly conditions. With plenty of surf schools and board hire nearby, it’s an easy option for first timers looking to get started.

Rainbow Bay - Another ‘iconic’ Gold Coast beach, Rainbow Bay is about as far South as you can go before crossing over the border into New South Wales. Speaking of whales - between May to November there is a high chance you’ll see them jumping out and coming in close to shore. Its protected location makes for gentle, rolling waves and plenty of spots to swim. While you are down that end, you must visit the Rainbow Bay surf club for the most stunning views of the coastline.

Hidden Gold Coast Beaches

Nobbys Beach - Nobbys offers a more local, laid back feeling than the busier tourist hubs. Long sandy beaches, patrolled swim spots and a surf club with a 10/10 menu, it’s worth exploring. Nobbys is rapidly becoming a restaurant and bar hot spot, so we recommend packing a change of clothes to wine and dine post beach.

Froggies Beach - Hidden away to the south of Snapper Rocks, Froggies Beach is a small, scenic cove known for its iconic green frog painted on the rocks. This spot is popular for coastal walks, sunbaking and the occasional influencer photoshoot. While swimming isn’t always recommended due to stronger conditions, Froggies remains a local favourite.

Palm Beach to Bilinga - From Palm Beach all the way down to Bilinga you will find the beaches start to get way less crowded. The suburbs definitely have more of a ‘coastal village’ feel to them compared to the city, with plenty of cafes, surf clubs, parks and paths to stroll or bike along. While there are shore breaks dotted all along this stretch for surfing, it is best to make sure you still swim between the flags and stay in the patrolled sections.

Best for advanced surfers -

Currumbin Alley - While also popular for beginners, the Alley is a go to spot for surfers of all levels. Currumbin Alley can get HUGE, especially after cyclones, with surfers needing to be towed into waves from a jetski. The alley is known for being consistently good and versatile, with both a right hand point break and sandy rolling waves close to the creek.

Snapper Rocks - This is the spot you’re most likely to find yourself starstruck in the water and surrounded by some of the surfing greats. Snapper Rocks is part of the world renowned Superbank, famous for its consistent tubes and powerful waves. Bring your patience (and your surf etiquette) for it gets very crowded.

Duranbah (D-Bah) - Technically not a part of the Gold Coast, Duranbah sits just over the border between Queensland and New South Wales. Offering both lefts and rights, it’s extremely popular when larger swell rolls through. Fast barreling conditions make it unsuitable for beginners, but there is plenty of space to watch from the cliffs.

Burleigh Point - To surf at Burleigh you are faced with a choice - either nail the rock jump or face a slow, difficult paddle out against the current. Once you’ve made it the rewards are worth it, with long peeling right handers and barrelling waves.

Ideal for a long weekend catch up, the Currumbin RSL has stunning views and a playground to keep the kids busy while you catch up.

Australia Day Celebrations

When: 26 January

Where: HOTA, Broadwater Parklands & across the Gold Coast

What to expect: A day of family friendly fun! HOTA will be putting on a *FREE* event with live music, activities, local performers and food trucks. Scattered around the rest of the city you’ll find many venues hosting their own Australia Day celebrations with music, set menus & events.

If you need your retail therapy fix, the Gold Coast is the place to be. From ultra famous malls and markets, to beachside boutiques and vintage stores - there is something for every type of shopper. Think of this guide as your new money spending bestie, full of all the hidden gems and local favourite boutiques just waiting to be explored.

Whether you're after a full day mall mission or a slow morning browse, I’ve rounded up all my favourite spots...

Famous Gold Coast Shopping Centres

Pacific Fair (Broadbeach)

The one and only. If someone says they’re ‘going shopping on the Gold Coast ’, 9 times out of 10 they’re probably going to Pacific Fair.

Think over 400 stores, a massive movie theatre, casual and fine dining, and every brand you can imagine. You’ll find Mecca, Sephora, Zara, H&M, Uniqlo, Culture Kings, Homebodii, designer labels, department stores, and so many boutiques. You will need to clear a full day in your schedule to make the most out of the experience.

Robina Town Centre (Robina)

A little more chilled but still packed with everything. I choose Robina when I want a big mall without the chaos. There’s endless restaurants, a food court, David Jones, Mecca, Sephora, Apple , plus all the big-name brands. Super easy to navigate and heaps of parking.

It’s also home to my favourite movie theatre, and has a row of great restaurants along the man made lake. If you are a gamer, or nostalgic for the old times, be sure to check out Super Retro games.

Harbour Town Premium Outlets (Biggera Waters)

If you are a bargain hunter, add this stop to your list. With over 220 outlet stores, Harbour Town is home to discounted designer labels, sportswear, sunglasses, homewares and everything in between. It’s a bit of drive to get to, but the best spot for outlet shopping on the Gold Coast.

For Boutiques, Vintage Stores & Slow Shopping...

Burleigh Heads

If you prefer slow mornings and plenty of coffee breaks while you browse, Burleigh will be your destination of choice. Take your time to explore James street and surroundings - it’s a hub of boutiques, cafés and restaurants.

You’ll find Emte, Bird on a Wire, Kivari, Freedom Store, St Harlowe, Maison & Maison and plenty of other unique finds. If you’re making a day of it, break for lunch at Local or treat yourself to post shopping cocktails at the Burleigh Pav .

Palm Beach

Palm Beach is the place to shop for the vintage lovers and those who like putting in the work for those unique finds.

You’ll find Billy Bones Club, Bonita Boutique, White Bohemian, Hand on My Heart , plus lots of great second hand stores hidden between cafés and restaurants.

Coolangatta

Coolangatta has more of a relaxed, old school beach vibe and its shops reflect the pace.

At The Strand and surrounding streets you’ll find plenty of op shops and tropical boutiques like Beach and Beyond , Things We Love, Olive and Vern and Saba Lifestyle . There is the iconic Boardriders Surf Store , and a handful of surf clubs for quick lunch or happy hour post shop.

Don’t forget to stop in at Kirra while you are down that end of town, home to boho heaven Gypsy and the Muse Boutique.

For the Homewares Hunters

Warning: The Gold Coast is dangerous if you love homewares and knick knacks. You may need to add on some extra checked in baggage just to get everything home.

Cotton Living (Kirra) A coastal chic homewares store with its own French coffee patisserie? Say less.

Maison & Maison (Burleigh) One for the boho lovers - think Moroccan rugs, jewellery, cushions, candles and more.

St Barts (Burleigh Heads) It can be tricky to find as it’s hidden in Burleigh’s warehouse district, but it is worth the visit. Unique homewares, décor, furniture, plus a cute terrace café and interior styling services.

Kira & Kira (Burleigh Heads) Hidden halfway down a side street, it’s a must visit if you love architectural, earthy styled pieces and artwork.

Welcome to the third instalment of our new blog series— Live Like a Local!

Welcome to part three of our Live Like a Local blog series! One of the worst feelings after a holiday is realising you hardly explored your destination, and there was much more to see. While we are all for encouraging you to come back again (and again) our aim is to make sure you pack the most into each and every Gold Coast visit.

The Gold Coast is one of those rare places where each suburb carries its own vibe, and we're here to help you find your perfect fit.

This week, our company founder, Jennifer, is letting you in on all her favourite hidden gems. Spoiler alert : as someone who is always on her laptop and working, she knows exactly where the best ( and strongest ) coffee spots on the Gold Coast are hiding.

Jen has been calling the sunny Gold Coast home for 6+ years, with her favourite suburbs to soak up the sunshine being Miami and Mermaid Beach.

Here are her tried-and-true Gold Coast insider spots…

Go to coffee and brunch spots: Velvet Lounge (Miami)

Tip: The booths are super comfy, and it's a great spot to smash out some work and a latte at the same time.

Dinner or Drinks with friends: Gemillini (Nobbys Beach)

Favourite Place for a Sweet Treat: Getting a Froyo at YOMG (Broadbeach)

Favourite Local Beach: The Spit. I love to watch the doggies running around!

Best date night spot: Tommys Italian (Currumbin)

Tip: The views are amazing, so it's worth making it a date day or getting the early for last light drinks.

If it’s a sunny day you’ll find me: Working, or by the pool.

Favourite weekend market : It’s been said before, but nothing beats the HOTA markets!

Tip: Make sure to get there early, best for parking and snapping up the best baked goods before they sell out.

Best-kept secret in your area: Once again I have to say Velvet Lounge! From brunch to dinner, it is always 10/10.

Favourite local businesses to support: Baked by Michiko, and Platters & Blooms.

We use both regularly whenever we have an office event, and can vouch for how great they are.

Welcome to the second instalment of our new blog series— Live Like a Local!

There is nothing worse than leaving a holiday feeling like you barely scratched the surface of your destination. While the tourist spots are popular for a reason, there is so much more to the Gold Coast than what you’ll find on Google or ChatGPT.

Our aim is to provide our guests with insider tips on where to visit and what to do on the Gold Coast. We’re hoping that not only will it help you have the best trip possible, but also help support our local community and small businesses.

Each fortnight we interview one of our team members — all of whom have different favourites and 'must-dos' to recommend.

This week, I’m spilling my very own secret spots, and trust me…I have a lot of secrets to share.

While I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, I’ve lived in Sydney, Manila and Indonesia. After all my adventuring, the Gold Coast is well and truly home, and one of the most beautiful places I’ve had the privilege to experience.

Depending on what suburb you’re in, the Gold Coast can feel like a completely different city (or country!). We hope you make the most of your time here and get to experience it all.

Here are my tried-and-true Gold Coast insider spots…

My go to for Coffee and Brunch

Tarte (Burleigh or Currumbin)

Tip: Burleigh is closer to our Wow Stay properties, but Currumbin has beautiful views by the water. At Currumbin, there’s even a place to hire paddle-boards and venture around the river!

Paddock Bakery (Burleigh Heads)

Tip: Don’t be afraid of the huge line — it moves fast, and that’s how you know it’s worth it. You must get cookies to take home and put them in the oven to melt. Thank me later.

Dinner or Drinks with Friends

Etsu (Mermaid Beach)

When you first get to Etsu, you’ll think Google Maps is taking you for a ride. Hidden behind the roller door is one of the best Japanese fusion restaurants on the Gold Coast. Food, service, cocktails — all consistently 10/10.

Mexicali (Nobby’s Beach)

Mexicali ticks all the boxes: great food, perfect share plates, and every possible margarita variety you could want. Located in Nobby’s Beach, it’s an easy choice for bar hopping afterwards.

Favourite Place for a Knock-Off Drink

For something close to the office, I can’t go past a good old-fashioned Irish pub. My favourites in Surfers Paradise are Waxy’s or Finn McCool’s .

For something closer to home, I love Backbone Ba r in Tugun. They have 23+ different craft beers on tap, plus delicious dumplings, karaage chicken and bao buns.

Best Date Spots

Cooly Breeze (Coolangatta) for fine dining and amazing views, Balboa (Palm Beach) for Italian, or Miami Fish Market for something fancy you can take home.

Tip: Miami Fish Market has drool worthy platters and ready to go sashimi packs. Take one down to the beach for the ultimate boujee picnic.

Favourite Walk to Do

Hedges Avenue in Mermaid Beach is the best street for house oogling. It’s a cruises walk and home to some of the most stunning (and expensive) properties on the Gold Coast. I love doing the walk while pretending I'm picking my future house, then stopping at Rafiki Café for brekky.

For beach views, you can't go past the Burleigh Hill Walk. It feels magical walking through the rainforest, and it's worth the climb to the top for views all along the coast.

Best-Kept Secret in your area

Palominos Deli (Tugun)

While it’s a bit out of the way from most of our Wow Stay properties, Palominos Deli is absolutely worth remembering. If you’re on your way to/from the airport, or venturing down south for the day.

Tip: You must get there before 11am and order the OG brekky roll with jalapeños. It is so good I’ve officially named it my death-row meal.

The bottle shops have tripled their supply of cowboy shot buckets…instant noodle sales are front and centre at Woolworths…it can only mean one thing: Schoolies Season is upon us. As an accommodation provider, November on the Gold Coast is one of our busiest (and craziest times) of the year!

The Vibe: A high-octane spectacle of FMX, BMX and scooter stunts, pyrotechnics and non-stop action. Expect adrenaline-filled thrills and big crowds.

Surfing State of Origin

When: November 15 & 16, 2025

Where: John Laws Park, Burleigh Heads

The Vibe: A surf showdown between Queensland & New South Wales, where the top 8 teams battle it out. The local surf clubs will be packed, and it’s a great way to experience local culture.

Rolling Sets Festival

When: November 29, 2025

Where: Ebenezer Park, Tweed Heads

The Vibe: Think coastal music festival meets surf/skate culture. Headliners include Hilltop Hoods, Spacey Jane and the Parcels, with plenty more acts to follow.

Lee Kernaghan – Boys From The Bush The Concert

When: November 29, 2025

Where: The Star Gold Coast, Broadbeach

The Vibe: One of Australia’s leading country music acts, expect feel good tunes and plenty of sing alongs.

Schoolies Week One & Two

Week One: November 22 – 29, 2025 | Week Two: November 29 – December 6 2025

Where: Typically around Surfers Paradise / official Schoolies venues.

The Vibe: Two weeks of pure chaos. Just kidding, while it can seem the streets are a little busier than usual it’s an extremely well run event - beach parties, theme nights, concerts and group events. Week One is usually busier as it’s for Queensland students, with numbers dropping off for Week Two / interstate guests.

NOVEMBER MARKETS

Love Me Again Markets

When: November 15, 8am - 12pm

Where: Miami Marketta: Hillcrest Parade, Miami

The Vibe: One of the best pre-loved fashion markets on the Gold Coast! Grab a coffee, grab a bag, and scout a vintage bargain.

The Village Markets

When: 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month, 8am - 1pm

Where: Burleigh Heads State School,

The Vibe: Ever wanted to shop in an influencer's closet? That’s what the Village Markets are for. A huge range of preloved clothes, plus food stands, local labels and gifts.

Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets

When: Every Wednesday, Friday & Saturday from 4pm

Where: The Foreshore, Surfers Paradise

The Vibe: Beach vibes, local labels, gifts and market food galore. Come for the sunset, stay for the shopping.

B roadbeach Art & Craft Markets

When: October 5 & 19, 8am – 2pm

Where: Pratten Park, Old Burleigh Rd, Broadbeach

The Vibe: One of the most popular markets on the Gold Coast for families. These markets are full of handmade gifts, art, jewellery, local labels and of course - plenty of food!

HOTA Farmers Markets

When: Every Sunday, 6am – 11.30am

Where: 135 Bundall Rd, Surfers Paradise

The Vibe: Fresh produce, live music and a relaxed Sunday morning vibe. Perfect for picking up local goods and enjoying breakfast outdoors.

Wel come to part one of our new blog series — Live Like a Local!

While we love a trip to Movie World and all the popular attractions ourselves, everybody knows the best way to truly get to know your destination is to follow the locals. They know where to eat (and what to order) , what nights the specials are on, and even how to score a car park with a 5km radius of the beach.

To make it easy to plan your next getaway, we’ll be getting our staff to spill their secrets and share their favourite Gold Coast hidden gems!

Each fortnight we’ll feature recommendations from one of our team members, all of whom live completely different lives and have unique perspectives on where to go. Our aim is to give our lovely guests the insider tips you won’t find on Google or ChatGPT, while supporting our local community businesses.

To kick things off, we’re starting at the top — with our office manager, Sarah. Originally from New Zealand, Sarah has just hit her five-year mark on the Gold Coast, earning herself enough credibility to officially call herself a local.

Here are her top locals-only recommendations…

Go to coffee and brunch spots: O'bagel (Broadbeach) and Elk Espresso (Broadbeach).

Tip: If you are headed to O'bagel on a Sunday morning, make sure you get there early to beat the line!

Dinner or Drinks with friends: Miami Marketta (Miami) The Island Rooftop (Surfers Paradise) , Siblings (Kirra Beach), Beach Hotel (Kirra) .

Tip: The views at Siblings and Kirra Beach Hotel are to die for, so aim to get there for last light and sunset drinks.

Best date night spot: Rick Shores (Burleigh), Rosellas (Burleigh) , Hideaway (Broadbeach), Coast in Meriton (Surfers Paradise) .

Tip: Rick Shores WILL book out in advance - so make sure to lock it in before you arrive.

Your favourite place for a knock off drink: The Island (Surfers Paradise) or Mermaid Beach Tavern (Mermaid).

Tip: You DO want to try the Island’s calamari or pizzas!

Favourite beach: Coolangatta and Currumbin.

Tip: Currumbin if you want to learn to surf, Coolangatta if you want easier car parking and space in the water.

Best-kept secret in your area: Lucky Bao in (Mermaid Waters) , Fu Manchu on Chevron Island or anywhere on the Isle of Capri.

Tip: If you haven’t made a dinner booking somewhere, head to Isle of Capri. There are so many amazing restaurants within walking distance of each other.

If it’s a sunny day, you’ll find me: At Coolangatta Beach and Surf club for a drink

Tip: When going to the surf clubs, it’s often worth joining the membership. You usually save the cost back within a few rounds.

Favourite weekend market or local event: HOTA Sunday markets

Tip: Arrive hungry, there are so many amazing stands to try!
